Scalextric Digital is designed to be fully compaible with standard Scalextric track. Here are a few tips when using a Scalextric Digital layout. Do not use a standard Scalextric powerbase or transformers.
What happened to Scalextric?
Production of Scalextric was transferred to Rovex in 1968 (although the Minimodels factory remained open until the early 1970s). It is now owned by Hornby Hobbies of England.
Can you mix old and new Scalextric track?
General. On the whole there is very good compatibility between the old and new Scalextric cars and Scalextric track. Newer Scalextric cars can run well on older Scalextric layouts as long as the layout is flat and contains no sudden changes in height such as rocks or banked curves.
When did Scalextric track change?
2002
The latest significant change to the Scalextric track was in 2002 with the introduction of the ‘SPORT Advanced Track System’. This new SPORT track replaced the previous CLASSIC track that was used from 1963 (the CLASSIC track is now discontinued).
Is Scalextric made in China?
With Scalextric now established as part of the Hornby Hobbies group, the products were becoming ever more detailed. This inevitably meant costs increased, which by the end of the decade would result in production being moved to China.
How do I stop Scalextric track rusting?
Anything abrasive (sandpaper, track rubber, even metal polish) will wear away the plating and the rails will rust. Please don’t be tempted by a quick fix – keep abrasive cleaning products away from your Scalextric track! The first part of my cleaning regime is using lighter fluid (naptha) on a rag.
What does Digital Scalextric mean?
Digital Scalextric uses the same size track and cars as analogue, but the cars are electronically chipped to enable more control of the car and specific sections of the track. The addition of the lane changers add a great dimesion to racing where you can overtake and block other cars on track.
