Who founded Raystede?
Miss M Raymonde-Hawkins
In the 1930’s a lady called Miss M Raymonde-Hawkins purchased a cottage with a small patch of land just outside of Lewes in East Sussex. A former headmistress with a deep compassion for animals, she left the education sector to establish Raystede as an animal charity in 1952.

What do shelters do with euthanized animals?

How does the adoption process work at raystede?
You will be invited to Raystede to meet any animals who might suit your home. We will discuss the animals’ background, health and behaviour. This sometimes requires a few visits. Once you are ready to adopt your perfect partner, we will book an adoption appointment; our Rehoming Team will talk you through caring for your pet.
