What is cold wax batik?
It acts as a resist to stop dyes and paints absorbing into the areas of the fabric or paper that have been masked off with the wax. It helps to stretch fabric taut over a frame to allow the resist to sink through to the other side of the material.

A double-boiler keeps wax melted safely, the upper chamber can t get above 212° F (unless the lower chamber runs out of water). But this is low for batik: most waxes do best from 215 – 275° F. An electric fry-pan, entirely given over to batik, is ideal – leave the temperature set.
