How to use Sinemet CR. Take this medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually 2 to 3 times a day. Doses are usually taken 4 to 8 hours apart while awake. Do not crush or chew this medication.

If necessary, the dosage of ‘Sinemet 25 mg/250 mg Tablets’ may be increased by one tablet every day or every other day to a maximum of eight tablets a day. Experience with a total daily dosage greater than 200 mg carbidopa is limited.

Patients who are taking less than 1500 mg of levodopa a day should be started on one tablet of SINEMET 25-100 three or four times a day. The suggested starting dosage for most patients taking more than 1500 mg of levodopa is one tablet of SINEMET 25-250 three or four times a day.

It is generally recommended that patients take Sinemet on an empty stomach, at least ½ hour before or one hour after meals. There are two forms of Sinemet: controlled-release or immediate-release Sinemet.
