Whether you need a spray bar or not entirely depends on your current setup. If your aquarium has good surface agitation and movement already, then a spray bar doesn’t have much to offer. But if you have dead spots in your tank or are looking for some gentle water movement, a spray bar is just the tool you need.
Is a spray bar better?
If you need more oxygen flowing through the water in your tank, a spray bar is undoubtedly the way to go. However, if you don’t really care about oxygenation, and you need some good water movement, then a spray bar is not the way to go. Great for water oxygenation & aeration.
Is a HOB filter enough?
Most standard aquariums can use (HOBs). They provided adequate surface tension and filter the tanks quite well. However, there are types of tanks that I wouldn’t recommend (HOB) filters. Fry and Shrimp tanks will not be a good match for these types of filters.
Do you need an Airstone with a spray bar?
You do not need an airstone at all as long as you have enough surface movement for gas exchange. You will be fine with just the spraybar.
Does surface agitation increase oxygen?
Surface agitation promotes gas exchange – the agitation increases the rate at which oxygen (O2) dissolves in water. It also increases the rate at which carbon dioxide (CO2) is released from the water. The amount of oxygen in your aquarium plays a major role in determining how many fish you can keep in your tank.
Where should aquarium internal filter be placed?
Internal filters must be fully submerged to work correctly. They work best near the substrate, though if the air pump is separate, it is usually situated somewhere outside the fish tank. For this reason, most sponge filters come with suction cups to help hold the unit in the desired corner of your aquarium.
Is hanging filter good?
Hang on Back (HOB) filters are great for beginners and mainstream aquarists because they do all three types of filtration – mechanical, biological and chemical – while being extremely user friendly and reasonably priced.
Is sponge filter good?
Generally, sponge filters are good for most fish tanks. However, there are instances where they really shine. Sponge filters are excellent due to their gentle flow. This allows for set-ups for fry, betta and shrimp tanks that thrive in low-flow filtration.
Why do you need air stone?
An air stone is a small weighted bubbler that produces very small bubbles in the water. This simple accessory helps to gradually diffuse air into the tank and minimizes the amount of bubbling noise you’ll hear.
Does your Hob filter flow back into the intake tube?
While the filter works fine, I noticed that a lot of the clean water that flowed out went straight back into the intake tube to the left (I keep the set the flow to low since I have slow-moving fish.) So basically, the HOB would continually refilter the same small amount of water while leaving the rest of the tank water uncirculated and dirty.
How does a hob work?
So basically, the HOB would continually refilter the same small amount of water while leaving the rest of the tank water uncirculated and dirty. In my mind, there were two possible approaches to this problem.
How do I clean the water from the hob?
Rest the cup’s flap crease directly against the inner edge of the top of the tank. Angle it so that the clean water from the HOB will flow into the cup. At this point you should check to see if the cup touches the aquarium water surface.
