MIT has two application cycles: Early Action (EA) and Regular Action (RA).
Is MIT early action or Restrictive early action?
Unlike Stanford, Harvard, Princeton, or Yale, MIT does not have restrictive or single-choice early action. MIT simply asks that students respect other colleges’ restrictive early action policies, so your child cannot apply to MIT early action if they are applying restrictive or single-choice early action elsewhere.
Does EA Help for MIT?
According to MIT’s admission statistics, if you apply early action, you do have a slightly better chance of getting accepted than if you apply regular action. However, MIT specifically states this about its early action cycle: “We do not have a preference, and there is no strategic benefit to applying one vs the other.
Does MIT reject early action?
Getting deferred is NOT a polite rejection. Many many many people are deferred and get in later, MIT can’t afford to accept everybody EA so they accept more RA. While only 30% of the final class may be accepted EA, more than 30% of the class is made up of EA applicants.
Is MIT EA binding?
Early Action decisions are non-binding, and are announced in mid-December. At that time, the committee may offer admission, deny admission, or defer the decision.
Can I apply Rea and EA?
Restrictive Early Action: also like early action, REA is non-binding, but students may only apply to one private school REA. They can usually apply EA to public schools, however.
Does MIT give interview all applicants?
Interviews are conducted from October through November for Early Action and December through January for Regular Action. Interviews are not a required part of the MIT application. While we try to offer as many interviews as we can, we have limited availability and may not able to offer interviews to all applicants.
Is Stanford an EA or ED?
But Stanford doesn’t have an ED admissions program, so that avenue isn’t an option. What Stanford does have is a less-common admissions program: Restrictive Early Action. Restrictive Early Action (REA) provides applicants with an opportunity to submit their application early without agreeing to attend if admitted.
Can international students apply EA to MIT?
All students, regardless of citizenship or location, will be able to apply for either admissions round, EA or RA. Most MIT students, and nearly all international students, are on financial aid. Our deadlines will also remain the same, with a November 1 deadline for Early Action.
When does MIT release their EA decision?
The EA decision should be released much before the RA deadline so that applicants can determine whether they will apply to other colleges or not. If MIT release their decision on Jan 2, it will not give any chance to applicants to consider applying in RA. Anyway, as mentioned in the website, they will release the decision in mid-December.
What is early action at MIT?
Early Action is an option for all applicants, domestic and international. Our Early Action isn’t single-choice, binding, or anything like that. If you choose to apply to MIT during Early Action, we do not place any limits on where else you may apply, nor do we require you to attend if admitted (though we sure hope you do!).

Is MIT head coach’s information about EA notifications correct?
There is no guarantee that the coach’s information is correct since as we all know, the admissions office at MIT is less connected with the athletic department than at about any other college in the country. Nonetheless, I trust this head coach and see no reason why he’d have incorrect information about EA notifications.
