Very well known amps were designed with KT66 tube. For example, legendary LEAK Quad II and Heath W5M use KT66 tube in Williamson circuit. And of course, the Marshall JTM45 and its derivative models 1961 and 1962 used the KT66 tubes.
Can KT66 replace EL34?
The JJ KT77 is a drop in replacement for almost any EL34 type tube amp for a little different flavor. The JJ KT66 can be used in a variety of amps that use 6L6’s if there is room!
Are EL84 and 6V6 interchangeable?
Yes, the socket change is a fairly major operation, but the 6V6s are pretty compatible with the EL84 voltage and output impedance.
Can KT66 replace 6L6?
One thing worth noting is that many folks consider the KT66 tube to be a substitute for the 6L6 tube types. Although this is acceptable in some circuits they are not direct substitutes. The 6L6 tube type has a heater filament that draws approximately 0.9A of current. The KT66 draws about 50% more current, 1.3A.
Can a KT88 replace a 6L6?
You really ought to increase the power of your output transformer if you’re going to move from 6L6 to KT88. a pair of 6L6 generally puts out about 35-45w. a pair of KT88 is about double that. that’s great if you want to increase the wattage of your amp, but be sure your output transformer can handle it.
Can you swap 6L6 for KT88?
Can you replace 5881 with 6L6?
You’re fine to swap out 5881s and replace them with 6L6GCs – that’s an upgrade in valve power rating and plate voltage. I’d be careful putting 5881 in an amp designed for 6L6GC as you are downgrading the valve – putting in a weaker component if you like.
