The best sand to use between pavers is crushed rock or coarse, washed river sand. Pour the sand over the paved area and sweep it into every space between the pavers. Take the time to do a thorough job for long-lasting results.

How do you match block paving?
Often, the best solution is to lift the existing blocks and randomise them with the new blocks, re-laying the lot over the entire area. This will give a more mottled appearance, but one that is homogenous. Obviously, this technique only works when both the existing and the new blocks are of the same thickness.

As a rough guide you will need between 1 x 20-25 kg bag of kiln dried sand per 15-30 square meters of paving to be re-sanded. This depends on the width & depth of the paving joints.

Can you put too much sand under pavers?
The plate compactor vibrates the pavers down into the thick sand. Excess sand slowly fills the joints and spills out of the edges and across paver surfaces. Even with edge restraints supporting the perimeter, sand eventually erodes out of the joints and causes widespread chipping and paver misalignment.
