Cementoblastoma is a rare condition that develops in the cementum of the tooth—the calcified substance that protects the root. Approximately 50 percent of the patients experiencing symptoms of this condition are under 20 years of age; 75 percent are under 30 years of age.
Does cementoblastoma have a radiolucent rim?
Literature revealed that cementoblastoma possesses a thin radiolucent rim surrounding the radiopaque mass in the mature lesion. As it matures it obliterates the outline of the root on the X-ray where there is always a radiolucent margin surrounding the cementum.
What is clearcementoblastoma (CCB)?
Cementoblastoma is a rare benign odontogenic neoplasm which is characterized by the proliferation of cellular cementum.
What is the provisional diagnosis of benign cementoblastoma?
The provisional diagnosis was benign cementoblastoma, and the patient was scheduled for surgical removal of the tumour and extraction of the associated premolar under general anesthesia. At the time of surgery, a buccal full-thickness envelope flap was developed to identify the mental nerve and the lesion.
Is benign cementoblastoma mesenchyme and/or odontogenic ectomesenchyte?
Recently the benign cementoblastoma is included into Mesenchyme and/or odontogenic ectomesenchyme, with or without odontogenic epithelium odontogenic tumours. Benign cementoblastoma has characteristic radiologic and microscopic features and it appears to be fused to the tooth roots.
What is the difference between cementoblastoma and periapical cemental dysplasia?
Periapical cemental dysplasia usually produces a smaller lesion than cementoblastoma and shows a progressive change in radiographic appearance over time, from radiolucent to mixed to radiopaque. Condensing osteitis lacks a peripheral radiolucent halo.
