The final major patch for the expansion, Patch 3.3, ‘Fall of the Lich King’, was released on December 9, 2009. It added the Icecrown Citadel raid, where players would fight the Lich King and the main storyline came to a conclusion.

The Lich King was the master and lord of the Scourge which he ruled telepathically through the Helm of Domination from his Frozen Throne atop Icecrown Citadel. Initially trapped within the Frozen Throne with Frostmourne, the Lich King eventually betrayed Kil’jaeden and merged with the human Arthas Menethil.
Why do blood elves join the Horde?
Basically, the elves joined the Horde to survive after being persecuted wrongly by the Alliance and having been betrayed by their prince.
