How long is Stein Valley hike?
Lower Valley (main trail head to Cottonwood Creek): Approximately 30 kilometres in length. The trail is in generally good condition, with only occasional deadfalls. Some sections may be muddy or flooded during spring run-off.
How do you get to Stein Valley?
To reach the Stein Valley trailhead is located on the west side of the Fraser River by Lytton and accessed by crossing the Lytton Ferry. After disembarking from the ferry, follow the road to the right for 4.8 kilometres to the junction with the Stein Valley Road (marked). Turn left and follow it to the parking lot.
How long is the Sunshine Coast trail?
We did about 100k in 6 days, from Sarah Point to Lewis lake. Some challenging 20k+ 1000m+ elevation days! Gorgeous lakes, huts were great, Tinhat was legendary. Great trail but some of the markers for distances felt a bit off.

Do you need a permit for Sunshine Coast Trail?
The huts are so very generously made and maintained by the Powell River Parks and Wilderness Society (PAWS) and users, and as such do not require any sort of permits or payments. Three of the higher elevation huts are winterized, making the Sunshine Coast Trail accessible year around.

Black bears: Black bears are common around the upper Sunshine Coast, and it is not uncommon to see them along the Sunshine Coast Trail. However, they don’t want to encounter you at a close range any more than you want to encounter them, so if you make noise as you hike, you are unlikely to see them.

How to get to the Stein pass?
A jeep could make it a few kms further to the pass via the old silver mining road, but most folks hike up. The old road continues several kilometers into the Stein, but please respect the non-motorized laws, as driving further where other folks are hiking is lame and detracts from their recreation.
